7. Funding

Overview

Funding may come from a range of sources.  When planning fundraising, having a diverse mix of funding helps protect against potential challenges that may arise if a particular source comes to an end.

Local authorities and churches should consider what funding they can bring to the table as separate entities, what they can apply for or raise independently and what they might consider applying for jointly.

Funding Opportunities

Explore grants, donations, and sponsorships as possible funding streams.Consider pooling resources for cost-effective service delivery. Joint applications with other voluntary sector organisations for grants from government bodies, charities, or faith-based funders can demonstrate to funders that you are collaborating and that their money will go further.

Leverage church assets such as volunteer networks, congregation member’s own networks, and connections to local businesses.

Explore local as well as national funding bodies. From local community foundations and trust funds, to National Lottery, Children in Need and larger trusts such as the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, Benefact Trust and so on. Check out the Christian Funders Forum for others.

Enhance your applications for funding by telling stories of the impact you are having in people’s lives. See appendix for ideas of prompts to help you
